Belonging and Conflict: The Stories of Our Lives is about understanding people's need to belong to a group and how that need creates conflict among groups. A street magician talks about the way he creates groups. A Colombian farmer talks about being caught in a civil war between guerrillas and government forces. An undercover FBI agent talks about how he became accepted by a group of money-launderers. A former gang member talks about why he joined a gang…and why he left. A Serbian priest talks about the NATO war against Serbia.
Altogether, more than twenty people from around the world talk about their experiences, and in all the stories, in some way, we can recognize ourselves. When this happens, when we recognize ourselves in strangers, when we see that our conflicts are versions of others taking place, in our community, in our country, in the world, that's when understanding and compassion, the foundation of conflict resolution, can begin.
